New envoys vow to bolster economic diplomacy

KATHMANDU, APR 28 -

The Confederation of the Nepali Industries (CNI) organised an interaction with newly appointed Nepali ambassadors to five different countries on Nepal’s economic diplomacy.

Present at the programme were Rudra Nepal, ambassador to Australia, Ram Mani Pokharel, ambassador to Brussels, Rabi Mohan Sapkota, ambassador to Russia, Paras Ghimire, ambassador to Myanmar, Prahlad Prasai, ambassador to Israel and Bharat Poudel, ambassador to Pakistan.

At the programme, the envoys said the crux of the modern foreign policy should be economic diplomacy. The new appointees asked industrialists to come up with their suggestions and demands to promote bilateral trade and economic relation with countries they are stationed in. “We will give our best to help Nepali entrepreneurs promote their business in countries we are stationed,” said Prasai, ambassador to Myanmar.

Businessmen and entrepreneurs present urged the envoys to facilitate technology transfer, foreign direct investment and promote Nepali products abroad.

CNI President Binod Chaudhary said the country’s desire is trade, not aid, and requested the newly appointed envoys to facilitate trade.
